$1M Allocated For Brooklyn Sidewalk Extension To Protect Pedestrians, Seniors

CBS New York

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – City statistics show senior citizens are more likely to be hit by cars than any other age group.

Because of those statistics, changes are planned at some dangerous intersections in Brooklyn, WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported.

On Tuesday, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams unveiled a chalk outline where a sidewalk extension will be constructed in Borough Park.

“Instead of standing there hoping that the cars will see them, they can come all the way out here,” he said.

He said the new addition will make the intersection safer.

“It gives the senior or disabled a head start to cross,” Adams said.

As Haskell reported, the sidewalk will actually be extended about 6 feet from the curb.

“The shorter the distance to cross, makes it that much safer,”…

87 Livermore Police Officers Outfitted With Body Cameras

CBS San Francisco

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) — All 87 Livermore police officers have been issued body cameras, department officials said Tuesday.

Livermore police spokesman Officer Ryan Sanchez said today that many law enforcement agencies locally and across the nation are starting to use body cameras, but he believes Livermore is the only agency in Alameda County to issue them to all of its officers.

President Barack Obama has encouraged police departments to use body cameras in the wake of recent incidents across the country in which officers have killed unarmed suspects.

Sanchez said Livermore’s use of the cameras, which began on April 13, will allow officers to document incidents and interactions and obtain evidence during investigations.

He said the department will be able to review the video footage to analyze critical incidents and as a tool to keep officers well-trained and prepared.

In addition, the footage can be used when complaints are filed…

I Need YOU to Survive!

“I Need You to Survive”
-Hezekiah Walker
I need you
You need me
We’re all a part of God’s body
Stand with me
Agree with me
We’re all a part of God’s body
It is his will that every need be supplied
You are important to me
I need you to surviveI pray for you
You pray for me
I love you
I need you to survive
I won’t harm you
With words from my mouth
I love you
I need you to surviveIt is his will that every need be supplied
You are important to me
I need you to survive

We as women often struggle with connecting, bonding, loving, being authentic, not judging one another…the list goes on! Why? I mean at our core we should find it easiest to join forces and lift one another up! I mean there is such power in women of all shapes, sizes, colors, nationalities and ethnicities, joining together for the sake of just loving, connecting and empowering.

Most of us struggle from day to day, alone. We are surrounded by “sisters” that share in the same ,if not similar inner issues, yet we all walk around bound up. We don’t confess our need for help out of our fear of being judged. We wear masks around each other to keep the perception that everything is perfect when in reality our worlds are falling apart.

When are we going to realize that we were not designed to be alone! We were created for connection…

How To Look Festive For St. Patrick’s Day – Without Being Corny

Global Grind

St Patrick's Day

Next week, millions of people will celebrate with a tall glass of beer (or two, or three…), gold beads, and a flurry of “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirts.

Yes, that can only mean St. Patrick’s Day. And if you’re looking to get in on all the fun, you’re probably trying to reconcile between looking festive and looking like a cornball. Don’t worry; it can be done. Incorporating green into your wardrobe is a great way to bring in some St. Patty’s Day cheer.

But the key to keeping your cool is simplicity. You don’t want to be THAT person who’s wearing green from head-to-toe, but you also don’t want to be the bore who’s not participating at all. A pleated skirt is a great way to celebrate the holiday and the beginning of spring. Bring in a pop of green with a stylish purse, sneakers, or accessorize your green with…

GREENSBORO — The Rev. Howard Chubbs, thought to be the city’s longest-serving pastor and a former chairman of the N.C. A&T board of trustees, died Thursday, according to the News & Record.

Chubbs, 79, served as the pastor of Providence Baptist Church for the past 49 years. He had not been in the pulpit in recent months because of an undisclosed illness.

“Even though he was sick, he knew about me being sick, and he still called me up until 10 days ago,” said church member Ralph Shelton, the founder of Southeast Fuels. “He always said, ‘Listen, Ralph, we’ll be OK either way.’ He said, ‘We are going to keep one hand in God’s hand, and we are going to be OK.’ ”

Chubbs, whose voice was a rising baritone that climbed a few octaves higher while preaching, came to Greensboro in 1966 at age 29 to pastor the…
